The MSM-508FC-T CR is an 8-port Layer 2 managed industrial Ethernet switch with six RJ-45 10/100Base-TX ports and two multi-mode 100Base-FX fibre ports fitted with SC connectors. Routing data over fibre keeps the transmission path immune to EMI and RFI and isolated from electrical exposure, surges, lightning and chemical corrosion, which makes it suited to links that must stay protected.
The switch can be configured through an RS-232 console port or remotely over Telnet or a web browser. Its managed feature set includes 802.1Q tag-based and port-based VLANs, 802.1p QoS, port trunking, Spanning Tree, cable testing and port mirroring. The built-in Cyber-Ring technique lets several switches form a redundant ring that recovers from a fibre or copper link failure in approximately 20 ms.
Two DC power inputs from +12 VDC to +48 VDC can be connected at the same time, so the second source takes over if the first fails. A relay alarm output signals power or network link failures, and Modbus/TCP, Modbus/RTU and OPC support allow a SCADA system to monitor the status of the Ethernet and fibre ports.
