The VXC-114iAU CR adds four RS-232 serial ports to a PC through a universal PCI slot, supporting 3.3 V and 5 V PCI bus signalling. Each port has a 128-byte hardware FIFO and supports full-duplex communication at up to 115200 bps, which suits serial instruments, sensors, printers and scanners that need dedicated COM ports.
COM port numbers can be assigned manually using the 8-bit DIP switch COM-Selector, or left to the driver to choose an available number. Under Windows the driver provides a software buffer of up to 128 KB per COM port, which helps with large file transfers. The DB-37 female connector is supplied with one CA-4002 connector.
As an i version, the data lines of each port are isolated by on-board photocouplers, rated at 2500 VDC, which helps break ground loops and block voltage spikes. On-board ESD protection (±4 kV) diverts discharge away from sensitive circuitry, protecting the host computer and attached equipment.
