DS-2232i CR brings RS-232 serial devices onto Ethernet, so they can be reached across a network instead of being limited by direct serial cable length. It offers Virtual COM, TCP Server and TCP Client operating modes, and can also be set up as a serial bridge or serial tunnel to route data over TCP/IP between two serial devices.
The VxComm Utility maps the unit's serial ports to standard COM ports on 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7 SP1, 10, 2012 and 2016, allowing existing software to access the device without modification. Configuration is possible through the built-in web server, which supports static IP or DHCP addressing, and devices can be located on the network with the UDP Search discovery function.
The two Ethernet ports form a switch with LAN bypass, so units can be daisy-chained along a line. Power can come from a PoE source (IEEE 802.3af, Class 1) over standard Category 5 cable, or from a +12 ~ 48 VDC terminal block. The module includes a dual watchdog and, as an i-version unit, provides 3000 VDC signal isolation and ESD protection. It is designed for DIN-rail mounting.
