I-2542-B25 converts an RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 serial link into a single-mode fibre optic link, extending serial communication over 25 km. Wavelength division multiplexing lets two independent data channels share one fibre, which is useful where spare fibre is limited or new cabling is costly.
This B-variant transmits at 1550 nm and receives at 1310 nm, so it is supplied as one half of a matched pair with the I-2542-A25. The unit includes automatic RS-485 direction control, so no separate direction signal is needed from the host. Its serial data line has ESD protection, and it is designed to resist lightning strikes and EMI/RFI interference.
The converter runs from a +10 VDC to +30 VDC supply, draws 2 W and mounts on a DIN rail. It is rated for -25 ~ +75 °C operation, which suits cabinets and field installations. Fibre cable of 8.3/125, 8.7/125, 9/125 or 10/125 μm is supported, with 9/125 μm recommended for the 25 km distance.
