PCIe-S144i CR is a short PCI Express x1 card that adds four independent RS-422/485 serial ports to a host computer. Each port can be set up for RS-485 half-duplex or RS-422 full-duplex operation, and the on-board UART bridge handles RS-485 data direction automatically, so the host software does not need to switch the transmitter manually.
The i version of the card isolates the data lines of each port with photocouplers rated at 3000 VDC and adds ±4 kV ESD protection. This helps break ground loops, limit common mode voltages and protect the host PC and connected equipment from over-voltage and static discharge in electrically noisy plants and cabinets.
Each port has a 256-byte hardware FIFO and supports baud rates from 300 to 921600 bps, with configurable parity, data bits and stop bits. Up to 256 modules can share one RS-485 network. Drivers are provided for 32/64-bit Windows XP through Windows 10 and for Linux kernels 2.6.31 to 5.16.0.
