The PDS-220FT CR is a programmable device server that brings optical fibre connectivity to serial equipment. It connects one RS-232 port and one RS-422/485 port to a 100Base-FX Ethernet link over multi-mode ST fibre, rated at 2 km, so serial devices can communicate over distances that copper cabling struggles to cover.
Fibre suits sites with heavy electrical noise from motors, relays and welders, areas near high-voltage equipment or with differing earth potentials, and locations with flammable gases, as optical signals produce no sparks. The unit also includes a Modbus TCP to RTU/ASCII gateway, so Modbus TCP clients can reach Modbus RTU or ASCII devices on the serial side.
The VxComm-based Virtual COM utility maps the built-in serial ports to standard COM ports on Windows, while the built-in MiniOS7 and Xserver programming structure let engineers build custom Ethernet applications. A watchdog timer, removable terminal block and DIN-rail mounting support robust installation in industrial cabinets.
