The PPDS-742-MTCP brings legacy serial equipment onto an Ethernet network. It provides three RS-232 ports and one RS-485 port, and can be powered over Ethernet using IEEE 802.3af Class 1 PoE from a standard category 5 cable. Its VxComm driver can map the device's serial ports to virtual COM ports on a Windows PC, so existing COM-based software can keep working.
Beyond simple serial tunnelling, the unit runs a programmable device server environment with the built-in MiniOS7 firmware, and it can act as a Modbus TCP to RTU/ASCII gateway for SCADA and HMI systems that speak Modbus TCP. Serial ports carry +/-4 kV ESD protection, and the RS-485 port uses a self-tuner ASIC controller.
This ordering code is supplied with a CA-0910 cable. The unit has a plastic casing, a removable terminal block for wiring, and can be installed on a DIN rail or wall. Its operating range is -25 ~ +75 °C.
