The tGW-712i bridges Ethernet-based Modbus TCP/UDP masters and legacy serial Modbus RTU/ASCII devices, so serial equipment can be reached over an IP network without the cable length limits of RS-232 connections. It can also pair two serial Modbus devices across TCP/IP, which suits equipment that has no Ethernet capability of its own.
A read-cache stores previous requests and responses in the module's memory. When several masters poll the same slave device with identical requests, the cached reply is returned immediately, which reduces traffic on the serial bus and shortens TCP response times.
The unit can be powered over Ethernet from an IEEE 802.3af, Class 1 PoE switch, or from a +12 ~ 48 VDC supply on the terminal block. Configuration is handled through a built-in HTTP web server, and the order includes a DC-jack to 2-wire power cable, 0.3 M.
