The GW-2225i CR is a Modbus TCP to RTU/ASCII gateway that lets a Modbus TCP host communicate with serial Modbus RTU or ASCII devices over Ethernet. Serial devices are no longer limited by the cable lengths of legacy RS-422/485 wiring, which simplifies SCADA and supervisory architectures where field devices lack Ethernet capability.
Beyond host-to-device gatewaying, the unit can be configured as a pair-connection, serial-bridge or serial-tunnel, routing data over TCP/IP between two serial Modbus RTU/ASCII devices. A read-cache stores previous requests and responses, so repeated queries from several HMI or SCADA masters to the same slave are answered immediately, reducing serial bus loading. Two Ethernet ports allow daisy-chaining, and the unit can be powered via PoE (IEEE 802.3af, Class 1) or a +12 ~ 48 VDC terminal block.
The GW-2225i CR suits factory and building automation, remote diagnosis and management, and solar monitoring. Its dual watchdog, with separate CPU and host watchdogs, resets the processor if the firmware misbehaves or if host communication stops for a predefined timeout. The built-in web server provides configuration of DHCP or static addressing, gateway and mask settings, and serial port parameters.
