The I-2542-A converts one RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 serial port into a single-mode SC fibre link that reaches up to 15 km. Wavelength Division Multiplexing lets two independent channels share one fibre strand, transmitting at 1310 nm and receiving at 1550 nm. The I-2542-A is the first half of a matched pair, so it is intended to be used together with the I-2542-B at the far end.
Engineers will value the automatic RS-485 direction control, which removes the need to manage transmit enable signals in software or wiring. The RS-232/422/485 data line has ESD protection, and the design is intended to help guard against lightning strikes and EMI/RFI interference. The port supports baud rates from 1200 to 115200 bps and draws 2 W from a non-isolated +10 VDC to +30 VDC supply.
The unit has a plastic casing measuring 33 x 89 x 107 mm (W x L x H) and mounts on a DIN rail. It is rated for an operating temperature of -25 to +75 °C and a storage temperature of -30 to +75 °C, with 10 to 95% RH non-condensing humidity.
