The I-7188E2D-MTCP CR is a palm-sized programmable device server that brings serial equipment onto Ethernet. It provides one RS-232 and one RS-485 port on the serial side and a 10BASE-T RJ-45 connection on the network side, so existing field devices can be reached over an Ethernet network without replacing them.
Beyond simple serial-to-Ethernet bridging, the unit operates as a Modbus TCP to RTU gateway, allowing SCADA and HMI software that speaks Modbus TCP to read and write devices on the serial bus. ICP DAS supplies XServer and Modbus libraries, along with C-language development tools, so the behaviour of the unit can be customised for the application. The built-in MiniOS7 runs the programme.
The CR ordering variant is supplied with a blue cover and carries an 80188 40 MHz CPU, 384 KB SRAM, 512 KB flash and 2 KB EEPROM. A five-digit 7-segment LED display, a programmable LED indicator and a watchdog timer support on-site status checking and unattended operation. It mounts on a DIN rail and accepts a +10 to 30 VDC supply.
