I-7188E5-485 is a programmable Ethernet device server that links a mix of RS-232 and RS-485 serial equipment to a TCP/IP network. Each of its five serial ports, one RS-232 and four RS-485, can be reached over Ethernet, so legacy devices can be integrated without replacing them.
Engineers can expose the serial ports to a Windows host as Virtual COM ports using the VxComm driver, or open raw TCP connections from their own software. The built-in Xserver programming structure and the MiniOS7 operating system allow custom Ethernet logic to be developed and deployed on the unit, with the MiniOS7 boot time quoted at about one second.
The unit is built for industrial wiring and environments, with a removable on-board terminal block, a watchdog timer, reverse polarity protection on its non-regulated +10 to +30 VDC supply, and an operating range of -25 to +75 °C. Its compact housing measures 123 x 72 x 33 mm.
