PCIe-S118/D2 CR adds eight RS-232 serial ports to a host PC through a single PCI Express x1 slot. Each port has its own 256-byte hardware FIFO and supports full-duplex communication at rates from 2400 to 921600 bps, which suits engineers connecting several serial devices to one workstation or industrial PC.
This variant ships with the CA-9-6210 cable rather than the CA-PC62M D-Sub connector supplied with the PCIe-S118 CR. COM port numbers can be assigned automatically by the driver or selected under software control, and the short card design fits compact chassis.
Typical targets include bar code readers, serial printers, intelligent sensors and instrumentation equipment, as well as any device fitted with an RS-232 port.
